Leaving the Familiar
By Danae Weaver
Hello from Tecate, Baja California. My name is Danae Weaver and I came to Shining Light as a caregiver three months ago and have committed to a 15-month term. I have a 12-year-old girl named Erika and a 2-month-old boy named Mateo.
As long as I could remember, I have wanted to work with children and so I feel extremely blessed that I have this opportunity. After visiting Mexico for the first time in February, I felt God leading me in this direction and so I applied to become a caregiver. Within six months, I was on an airplane headed to Mexico.
Leaving behind everything that felt familiar was definitely a big change for me and some days have been very challenging. However, I enjoy getting to know new people and seeing how so many people from so many different backgrounds can come together and work towards a common goal.
These first three months flew by so quickly and I am excited to see what is in store for me in the next year.
"And he said until them, Verily I say unto you, there is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake, who shall not receive manifold ore in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting." Luke 18:29-30
