BRINGING CHILDREN IN TECATE, MEXICO

THE LIGHT OF LIFE.

SPECIAL PROJECT

TRAINING CENTER PROJECT

We are in need of a dedicated, onsite training center to better prepare the incoming Shining Light staff for effective service. This center will offer Spanish courses and TBRI (Trust Based Relational Intervention) training. This facility will also have the ability to house the course facilitators and incoming staff in training. To bring this vision to life, we need a total of $205,000. Presently we have $50,000 in matching funds available which means we need to raise $155,000 in donations.

Read more on page 5 of this quarter's newsletter about the training center project!

Showers of Blessings

As an update to our July blog post regarding the extremely dry conditions and fires, we were blessed to receive two days of heavy rain over the past few weeks.  The showers nourished the terrain and were much needed to replenish moisture in our area. We also nourished our community, spiritually, by hosting a week-long…

Faithful through the Fire

Summertime is extremely dry in our area. As a result of the arid conditions, fires can easily breakout. Unfortunately, we have experienced many fires in the last month, and some of them have grown to be quite large and dangerous. We ask that you pray for the protection of Shining Light Children’s Home and for…

Zoo Trip and Fellowship

Bright and early on Saturday morning, May 25, an excited group of children loaded up in multiple vehicles to visit the zoo in Valle de Guadalupe. The zoo is home to many different animals including lions, tigers, hippopotamuses, monkeys, and many other interesting creatures. In addition to the animals, the zoo also has a large…

A Little Rain Won’t Dampen Our Fundraising Spirit

As morning dawned on April 26, twenty-five children awoke with anticipation of the exciting fundraiser event planned that day, but to their disappointment, the cold rain and clouds of Northern Mexico threatened to ruin their plans. Thinking quickly and undaunted by the elements, we decided to move the event indoors. Tecate Sheds graciously allowed us…

Waking the Senses

As you walk through the front door of Shining Light Children’s Home, your five senses are instantly awakened. You hear the cheerful sound of laughter and catch the gaze of curious eyes watching from every direction. As you step inside a little farther, you see a group of girls, around thirteen years old, drawing pictures,…

A Day at the Park

While on Spring Break, we planned a fun outing for the children and spent an entire day at the park.  Our day was full of games and activities like volleyball, spike-ball, and hiking. The laughter and joy were contagious.  The children played hard and had so much fun.  They also found peaceful moments of relaxation…
